On behalf of the Irish Medicines Board, King’s Centre for Risk Management, and the Nickel Institute we are delighted to invite you to attend and actively participate in the European Risk Summit to be held at Trinity College Dublin on the 11-12 June 2013.
The purpose of the Risk Summit is to discuss the advantages of evidence and risk based rulemaking as well as the challenges of formulating European directives/regulations – and by extension – national legislation on hazard classifications.
The aim of the meeting is to encourage a fostering of dialogue and collaboration among the relevant stakeholder community composed of European and national regulators, public officials, academics and industry to address the challenges in this area.
The summit will be divided up into a series of panel discussions that highlight the challenges for risk-based policy making in a number of distinct regulatory areas/issues. The panel discussions will be based on the following thematic lines:
- Promoting science based regulation in Europe – challenges & opportunities;
- The role of smart and better regulation: Lessons from the Member States;
- Hazard classifications and risk assessments – how do we best regulate?
- Applying the substitution principle – a scientific analysis with regard to its use in European directives and regulations
- Institutional oversight for risk-based policy making – The establishment of the European Parliamentary working group on risk
The Summit’s ultimate objective is to explore international principles as a way forward for science-based decision making. This is a discussion of primary importance, which will have a considerable impact on the future of European sustainability, innovation, and economic development on the global stage.
The Summit is an associated event of the Irish Presidency of the Council of the European Union.
